History and Founders

Anna Mojajpelo
Phina Mojajpelo

Two sisters, Anna and Phina Mojapelo, operate the New Jerusalem Children's home with help from volunteers, government and community agencies and donations. The center is a place of safety for abandoned and abused children and has sheltered more than 2000.

Anna is a children's advocate for whom community service was initially a hobby. She is a businesswoman and an experienced community-worker. She worked in Midrand for more than ten years and was engaged in a number of projects including economic development.

She has been an island in the sea of adversity, providing shelter and counseling since 1990. When she realized that the demand was mounting, she recruited her sister Phina, a social worker with seventeen years of service. Phina is versatile working with elders, youth, younger children, those having marital problems, people afflicted with HIV/AIDS, and project management.

The New Jerusalem Children's Home is centrally situated at 138 and 139 Steyn Road, President Park, Midrand. The Center is set in a 27 000 sqm plot with a big security wall and is within walking distance from Kanana, Ivory Park, Rabie Ridge, Ebony and Kaalfontein.

The center networks with Ebony Park Primary School, South African Police Service in Ivory Park and Midrand, Trauma Unit Park, Midrand Child Welfare, Christian Social Counsel and other organizations of similar objectives. The result of this network has yielded speedy resolution for traumatized children and youth in Midrand. The Center also has a day-care center and Montessori Preschool which accommodates the children in Midrand and surrounding areas.
